  1. The Tennessee Titans have hired Terrell Williams as defensive line coach Josh Jones Jersey , Keith Carter as offensive line coach and Tony Dews as running backs coach. Williams has been the Miami Dolphins’ defensive line coach the last three seasons. He also was on the Oakland Raiders’ staff from 2012-14. Carter was the Atlanta Falcons’ running backs coach in 2017 after spending two seasons as Atlanta’s assistant offensive line coach. The Falcons ranked ninth in the NFL in rushing this past season. Dews is a longtime college assistant who spent 2017 as West Virginia’s running backs coach. His previous college stops included stints coaching Michigan wide receivers (2008-10), Pittsburgh tight ends (2011) and Arizona receivers (2012-16). They’re the latest additions to new coach Mike Vrabel’s staff. The new Titans staff already included offensive coordinator Matt LaFleur, defensive coordinator Dean Pees, quarterbacks coach Pat O’Hara Bart Starr Jersey , secondary coach Kerry Coombs, outside linebackers coach Shane Bowen, inside linebackers coach Tyrone McKenzie and receivers coach Rob Moore. Vrabel also had already announced he retaining Arthur Smith as tight ends coach and keeping Craig Aukerman on staff as special teams coach. Aukerman had been an assistant special teams coach on Mike Mularkey’s Titans staff this past season. — Utah defensive lineman Lowell Lotulelei says Michigan defensive lineman Maurice Hurst Jr. told him Saturday that he had been diagnosed with the same heart condition as Lotulelei’s older brother, Star. The comments came shortly after ESPN.com first reported Hurst will not be allowed to participate in drills. League spokesman Michael Signora confirmed that players can be held out based on certain diagnoses but that he believed Hurst was still in town. Jeff Foster Bryan Bulaga Jersey , president of National Football Scouting, declined to confirm details of what happened because of privacy concerns. But he did tell The Associated Press that six to eight players have been withheld from drills this year for reasons players were not aware of before their arrival. Foster said that number has stayed relatively consistent over the past 13 years. Hurst had been rising steadily on mock draft boards. The 6-foot-2, 280-pound defensive tackle had 59 tackles and 5 1/2 sacks last season. He also had 13 tackles for loss and has been considered one component of a deep class of defensive tackles in this year’s draft. Hurst’s father played seven seasons with the New England Patriots as a cornerback. Word leaked just after defensive linemen and linebackers started talking to reporters at the NFL’s annual scouting combine in Indianapolis. ”I just found out in the NFLPA meeting that we just had. He just said, `Star was your brother?’ And I said yeah. He’s like Dave Robinson Jersey , `Man, I just got the same thing that he did,”’ Lowell Lotulelei told reporters. ”Obviously I didn’t go through it, so I don’t really know what he’s feeling like. But I kind of understand the disappointment just because my brother trained just like he trained and you’re expecting one thing and getting another. I feel for him. It sucks. But I think he’ll be fine just like my brother was.” Five years ago Ryan Jensen Color Rush Jersey , Star Lotulelei arrived at the combine as the expected first pick in that year’s draft. Things changed dramatically after doctors identified an ”abnormal” test on his heart. Lotulelei then sought additional opinions, eventually was cleared to exercise and was taken by Carolina with the 14th overall selection in the 2013 draft. He has missed only four games in five NFL seasons. —
  2. The Oakland Athletics were down to their last strike when Stephen Piscotty hit a tying home run off closer Brad Hand Geronimo Allison Jersey , who was San Diego’s only All-Star last year. Jed Lowie then hit a two-run shot with two outs in the 10th to lift the Athletics to a 4-2 victory Tuesday night. Hand was trying for his 22nd save when Piscotty drove a 2-2 fastball into the second deck, his fifth. ”That’s a guy you don’t typically think you’re going to string some hits together against and you’re down to your last pitch and the next thing it’s a homer,” manager Bob Melvin said. ”That’s about as big a momentum shift as you’re going to get, when you’re a strike away from losing and all of a sudden now you potentially have got their closer out of the game and bullpen-wise maybe we’re a little better set.” Against a pitcher like Hand, ”you’re probably only going to get one pitch to hit and you don’t want to miss it,” Piscotty said. ”He did a good job of getting ahead but in my mind I was just waiting for that one, and luckily I got it and didn’t miss it.” Piscotty took a 1-2 slider to even the count before homering. ”I saw that one really good and felt confident. Sometimes when you have a good take like that it locks you in,” he said. ”We were one out away from winning the ballgame. I made a mistake, they came back and hit a home run and then the tenth inning didn’t go our way,” Hand said. ”It was down, it was just inner third. A little more in would have been better, but it wasn’t necessarily a terrible pitch, but he made a good swing on it.” Said manager Andy Green: ”I’m sure if he had it back, he’d throw a slider instead of a fastball. I also think he wouldn’t mean to throw the fastball right where he threw it. Brad’s been good all year. I’m not the least bit worried about him. He’s resilient as anybody, and it’s one of those days, it’s a tough loss. It one of those that stings late because we did have it. One strike away, and those games sting.” Adam Cimber (3-3) allowed Marcus Semien’s one-out single in the 10th and retired Chad Pinder on a fly to right before Lowrie connected for his 10th homer. ”I was just looking for something over the plate that I could square up and he made a mistake right down the middle,” Lowrie said. Rookie Lou Trivino (4-1) pitched two innings for the win. Blake Treinen pitched the 10th for his 16th save. Padres rookie left-hander hander Eric Lauer had been in line for the victory after pitching six strong innings. He settled down after allowing an unearned run in the second and held the A’s to one run and three hits while matching his strikeout high with seven. He walked two. The Padres had given Lauer just enough support in the first two innings against Paul Blackburn. Jose Pirela brought in a run in the first on a grounder and Raffy Lopez doubled with one out in the second to bring in rookie Franmil Reyes, who was aboard on a leadoff double. Blackburn allowed two runs and four hits in five innings, struck out four and walked two. The A’s scored in the second with some help from replay. Khris Davis drew a leadoff walk and was originally called out on a force play on Matt Olson’s ground ball. The A’s challenged and the call was overturned, with shortstop Freddy Galvis given an error because his foot wasn’t on second base when he took the throw. Davis advanced on Mark Canha’s single and scored when Piscotty grounded into a double play. ROAD WARRIORS The Padres are in a stretch in which they will play just five of 28 games at home. After going 5-5 on a trip through Miami Frank Ragnow Color Rush Jersey , St. Louis and Atlanta, the Padres are home for just two games before heading out for a seven-game trip to San Francisco and Texas. Then they’re home for three games against Pittsburgh before a six-game trip to Oakland and Arizona. TRAINER’S ROOM Padres: Have cut short OF Franchy Cordero’s rehab assignment after he felt something in his right elbow. Manager Andy Green said it’s ”highly unlikely” Cordero is back soon. UP NEXT Athletics: RHP Frankie Montas (3-1, 2.67 ERA) is scheduled to start the finale of the two-game series. Padres: Rookie LHP Joey Lucchesi (3-2, 3.23) is scheduled to return from more than a month on the DL with a strained right hip. — CHICAGO — At times this season, the Chicago Cubs have struggled to produce offensively, especially when it comes to situational hitting that turned hits into runs. But as the Cubs prepare to open a brief two-game series against the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday at Wrigley Field, any concerns about run production seems to have subsided. At least for now. The Cubs will carry a four-game winning streak into Tuesday after producing 46 runs during their winning streak, which they extended with an 11-10 victory over the Minnesota Twins on Sunday. Although the bullpen struggled to protect leads at times, the Cubs’ bats did more than their fair share. Now, the Cubs will attempt to remain hot against the Tigers, who have won two straight but have lost 11 of their last 13 games. The Tigers beat the Toronto Blue Jays 3-2 on Monday. After Sunday’s victory, the Cubs found themselves leading the majors in hitting (.266) and on-base percentage (.345). Despite the times this season when the hits weren’t coming, the Cubs haven’t experienced any change in confidence now that they’re averaging more than 10 per game in their last four games. “We’ve been the same offense for quite some time now,” Cubs left fielder Kyle Schwarber said Sunday, according to the Chicago Tribune. “Things happen. We’re just going to keep this going.” Cubs pitchers have enjoyed plenty of run support of late, which is something Tuesday’s starter, Kyle Hendricks, wouldn’t mind seeing continue against the Tigers. Hendricks (5-8, 4.21 ERA) has experienced inconsistency this season and has battled his mechanics all the way through. Hendricks went 1-4 in June and is coming off an outing in which he allowed a season-worst six runs in just 2 2/3 innings on June 27 against the Los Angeles Dodgers. He hopes to right the ship in a new month against a team that has struggled offensively during their recent skid. Hendricks will face the Tigers for the first time in his career. “I’m just searching right now — it’s just bad,” Hendricks told reporters after his last start, according to the team’s official website. “Mechanics Oren Burks Jersey , I’m trying to focus mentally and going pitch to pitch and I’m doing that, but something’s just off. I’m searching now.” The Tigers’ back-to-back victories come after their losing streak reached a season-high 11 games. With Miguel Cabrera out for the season and other veterans like Victor Martinez struggling at the plate, manager Ron Gardenhire has been forced to work with a lineup full of young hitters. Before snapping the skid with a victory Sunday over the Blue Jays, the Tigers finished June hitting .222. “We’ve had a lot of struggles offensively, for sure,” Gardenhire said Sunday, according to the Detroit Free Press. “I think our pitching has held up OK. (The) bullpen had its good and bad moments. Offensively, we’ve really scuffled, especially the past couple week here. We all know that. Offensively, we have to get a lot better. More consistently.” On Monday, the Tigers placed closer Shane Greene on the 10-day disabled list with a right shoulder strain. Joe Jimenez, who is considered the Tigers’ closer of the future, will move into the role for the time being, Gardenhire said. Jiménez has a 2.77 ERA, 44 strikeouts and nine walks in 42 appearances covering 39 innings. Michael Fulmer (3-7, 4.20) will start Tuesday for the Tigers. Like Hendricks, Fulmer struggled in June, losing three of his five starts with a no-decision. Fulmer will face the Cubs for the first time in his career.
  3. The stat caught Chris Iannetta by complete surprise: This was only the 10th 1-0 game ever at Coors Field. ”Come on 49ers Kentavius Street Jersey ,” the catcher said. He can thank his dominant starter for the latest addition. He played a pretty big role, too. Iannetta homered in the seventh, Tyler Anderson pitched eight stellar innings in outdueling Andrew Suarez and the Colorado Rockies beat the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday night to sweep a three-game series. It was the first 1-0 game at Coors Field since June 12, 2010. Anderson (6-3) scattered two hits and tied a season high with nine strikeouts. The left-hander didn’t allow a baserunner to reach second base. ”Tyler pitched great,” Rockies manager Bud Black said. For that, Anderson credits a slight tweak in game plans, going with more cutters than changeups. ”It was helpful because I’ve faced those guys a lot,” Anderson said. ”If they want to sit on a changeup, it kind of helps to have something to equalize that.” And of course, Anderson wanted the ball for the ninth. ”You always want to go out and finish it,” Anderson said. ”At the same time, Wade Davis is an unbelievable pitcher.” Davis surrendered a two-out single to Andrew McCutchen and walked Buster Posey in the ninth. Pinch-hitter Brandon Crawford hit a deep foul ball before later flying out as Davis earned his 25th save. Suarez (3-5) pretty much matched Anderson pitch for pitch in going seven innings and scattering five hits. ”A pitcher’s duel is always fun,” Suarez said. ”I enjoyed it, just that last inning I missed that one pitch.” Suarez elevated a slider on a full count to Iannetta, who took a few steps down the line to make sure his hooking liner remained fair. It did. The umpiring crew took a look and confirmed Iannetta’s seventh homer of the season. Kelby Tomlinson and Brandon Belt both singled to account for the only Giants hits off Anderson. Over the three-game series, San Francisco mustered just three runs and hit a combined .152. ”It’s a tough one Authentic Josh Rosen Jersey , the whole series,” Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. ”We’ve got to rebound here, get the bats going.” This was another strong outing for Anderson, who allowed four hits and no runs over eight innings in Los Angeles against the Dodgers last Friday. He found a way to top it. ”He was good both times. He had command of four pitches,” Iannetta said. ”He was using all four quadrants of the zone. That’s really a difference maker. When you can command pitches, it makes it tough for hitters to get in a groove.” Colorado had something brewing in the third, when DJ LeMahieu lined a one-out double to right. Charlie Blackmon followed with a sharp single off the glove of Joe Panik, who hustled after the baseball as LeMahieu took a wide turn. LeMahieu held at third and Suarez got the next two outs to escape the jam. TRAINER’S ROOM Rockies: RHP Bryan Shaw (strained calf) threw 25 pitches in a simulated game Wednesday. Black said the reliever will throw Friday and Sunday for Triple-A Albuquerque. ”From there, we’ll make an assessment of where Bryan is,” Black said. ”But Bryan right now feels good, his arm feels great.” STREAKING ARENADO Nolan Arenado leads the NL with 22 homers this season. And to think, he thought he might not even hit one out this season. No, seriously. ”The first month-and-a-half, felt like I wasn’t going to hit any homers this year,” Arenado said. ”Now I have 22. You have to ride the wave.” THIS & THAT Tomlinson was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento and started at third base. … Colorado snapped a four-game skid on the Fourth of July. … Of Colorado’s three 1-0 wins on solo homers, Iannetta has the last two Authentic Terrell Edmunds Jersey , according to the team. He also accomplished the feat on July 18, 2010, at Cincinnati. … The game lasted just 2 hours, 15 minutes – the shortest at Coors Field this season. UP NEXT Giants: Begin a four-game series against St. Louis on Thursday, with Johnny Cueto (3-0, 0.84 ERA) expected to return to the mound. Cueto was placed on the disabled list May 1 – retroactive to April 29 – with inflammation in his right elbow. A few days later he visited Dr. James Andrews, who diagnosed him with a strained elbow. Rockies: Off Thursday before playing a three-game series in Seattle. RHP German Marquez (6-8, 5.14) will throw for the Rockies on Friday, while the Mariners go with RHP Felix Hernandez (8-6, 5.11). — Atlanta Falcons coach Dan Quinn has made three additions to his staff, including running backs coach Bernie Parmalee. The Falcons also have hired Mayur Chaudhari and Chad Walker to assist with special teams and the offense, respectively. Parmalee spent the past three seasons as the Oakland Raiders’ running backs coach. He replaces Keith Carter, who left the Falcons earlier this month to join the Tennessee Titans’ staff as an offensive line coach. Chaudhari was special teams coordinator for the University of Hawaii for the past two seasons. Walker coached the University of Arkansas outside linebackers in 2017 after spending 2016 as Atlanta’s assistant linebackers coach. Last month, the Falcons announced Greg Knapp’s return to the team as quarterbacks coach. —
  4. With the bases loaded and the game tied in the 10th inning Drew Stafford Jersey , Brad Miller plotted his approach as he came to the plate. ”You just look like you’re going to swing and don’t swing,” Miller said. Miller drew a bases-loaded walk with one out and the NL Central-leading Milwaukee Brewers rallied past the Minnesota Twins, 6-5 on Monday night. Nate Orf, playing in his first major league game, was hit by a pitch from Zack Littell (0-2) leading off the 10th. Manny Pina followed with a single and Keon Broxton walked. Pinch-hitter Hernan Perez, hitting against five infielders, hit a grounder to the left side that shortstop Jorge Polanco fielded and fired to the plate to force Orf before Miller got his chance against Littell. ”It’s tough right now,” Littell said, trying to explain his lack of command in the 10th. Corey Knebel (2-0) pitched a scoreless 10th with a pair of strikeouts for the Brewers, who trailed 5-1 after Robbie Grossman blasted his first career grand slam with two outs in the fifth off Milwaukee starter Brent Suter. Milwaukee has allowed grand slams in three consecutive games. Four Brewers relievers combined on five shutout innings. ”Corey had a dynamite inning,” Milwaukee manager Craig Counsell said. ”It was an outing for the bullpen. They kept us alive in that game.” The Brewers rallied against Twins closer Fernando Rodney in the ninth to tie it. After retiring pinch-hitter Eric Sogard, Rodney gave up three consecutive singles to load the bases for Travis Shaw, who tied it with a sacrifice fly. Rodney blew his fifth save opportunity this season. The Twins tied it at 1 in the third on a one-out RBI groundout by Brian Dozier, one pitch after Dozier appeared to have struck out swinging. Plate umpire Doug Eddings ruled that Dozier had fouled off the pitch, a call argued by Milwaukee manager Craig Counsell. Suter gave up five runs and nine hits in five innings. Pina led off the Brewers’ fifth with a homer off Kyle Gibson to cut the Twins’ lead to three. Milwaukee added another run on Miller’s bloop single and pulled to 5-4 when Twins third baseman Willians Astudillo failed to cleanly field Ryan Braun’s grounder near the bag. Gibson gave up eight hits and three earned runs over five innings. ORF’S LONG JOURNEY The undrafted Orf, 28, started at second base. He has been one of the top-producing players in the Brewers’ farm system for many years and fans have long been clamoring for him to be called up, even launching a (hash)FreeNateOrf campaign on Twitter. ”He is one of the more respected and revered players in our organization because of the way he treats people and because of the way he goes about his business,” Brewers general manager David Stearns said. Orf, whose parents traveled from St. Louis for the game, narrowly missed hitting a grand slam in the fifth but Max Kepler hauled in the deep drive at the center-field wall. ”After I hit it 49ers Fred Warner Jersey , I was like this is it. This is the coolest thing I’ve ever done,” Orf said. ”Then he caught it.” HITTING HURLERS Gibson, who had singles in his first two at-bats, entered the game with just a pair of career hits in 16 at-bats. His single leading off the third was his first hit since June 2015. ”I’d rather go 0 for 5 and go eight innings,” Gibson said. Suter singled in his only at-bat and Milwaukee reliever Taylor Williams got his first career hit with a sixth-inning single. TRAINER’S ROOM: Twins: Reinstated SS Jorge Polanco following an 80-game suspension for testing positive for a performance-enhancing drug. To make room for Polanco, OF Ryan LaMarre was designated for release or assignment. … Recalled RHP Zack Littell from Triple-A Rochester and sent LHP Adalberto Mejia to Rochester. Brewers: OF Christian Yelich sat out for the fourth consecutive time since leaving Thursday’s game with lower back tightness. ..RHP Aaron Wilkerson was optioned to Triple-A Colorado Springs when Orf was recalled. …Transferred INF/OF Nick Franklin, who has been out since May with a quadriceps injury, to the 60-day disabled list. UP NEXT Twins: Jake Odorizzi (3-5, 4.62 ERA) allowed one run and five hits with 10 strikeouts in a May 20 start against the Brewers but didn’t factor into the decision. Brewers: Junior Guerra (4-5, 3.05) surrendered one run and four hits in 4 1/3 innings and received no decision in a 3-1 loss to the Twins in Minneapolis on May 20. — Not that long ago, the Chicago Cubs probably viewed a series against the Cincinnati Reds as a near-guaranteed way to pick up some quick victories and gain some ground in the National League Central standings. Those days have changed. And so is the Cubs-Reds rivalry. The Cubs couldn’t hold a multi-run lead for the second straight night, and the Reds won their fifth in a row and eighth in 10 games — quite a run for a team that played .250 ball for the first month-plus of the season — by rallying for a 6-3 victory on Friday night. Now, the Cubs are expected to ask their bullpen to carry them through the third game of the four-game series Saturday at Great American Ball Park — a series that isn’t going much like most of those Cubs-Reds matchups for the last four seasons. Going into the series, the Cubs were 43-19 against the Reds since 2015, but the Reds are playing much differently now than they did when they were 8-27 on May 7. They’re 4-0 on their current homestand, even though they still remain well below .500 at 30-45. “Even when we were losing, they (his veteran players) felt like, ‘We’re a good ballclub, we’re going to get our share (of wins),'” Reds interim manager Jim Riggleman said. “(When) we’re on a roll like this, they feel like we’re just going to keep going with it.” Eugenio Suarez lifted his average to .304 by going 3-for-4 with a go-ahead two-run homer in the fifth inning off Jose Quintana (6-6) and Joey Votto had two hits and an RBI. Quintana gave up four runs and nine hits in five innings. “We’re playing really good baseball 49ers Tarvarius Moore Jersey ,” Suarez said. “We’ve got to keep doing what we’re doing — and keep winning. If we play like this, something good is going to happen.” The Cubs scored three times against Reds starter Luis Castillo (5-8) in 5 2/3 innings — Kyle Schwarber hit a two-run homer in the fourth — but former Cleveland Indians pitcher Kyle Crockett pitched out of a two-on jam in the sixth in his Reds debut. The Cubs managed only four hits in the game, David Hernandez pitched two scoreless innings and Raisel Iglesias finished in the ninth for his 12th save. The Cincinnati bullpen has pitched 6 1/3 scoreless innings in the series so far. “That was one of the cleaner games we’re played — offensively, defensively, we ran the bases well … and got timely hits,” Riggleman said. “When you do that, you’re probably going to win.” Now, the Reds have the improving Anthony DeSclafani (2-1) pitching Saturday. The right-hander missed the first two months of the season with an oblique injury after sitting out all of last season with an elbow injury, but he has won his last two starts while lowering his ERA from 7.60 to 4.20. He’s 2-2 in seven career starts against the Cubs, and he handles Chicago cleanup hitter Anthony Rizzo (2-for-20, .100) especially well. It’s expected to be a bullpen game for the Cubs, with former Reds pitcher Luke Farrell (2-2) making his first start of the season and only the second of his major league career. The longest he has pitched this season was five shutout relief innings during the Cubs’ 7-1, 14-inning victory over the New York Mets on June 2. Cubs manager Joe Maddon stayed with his recent experiment of using slugger Kris Bryant as a leadoff hitter — he was 9-for-24 (.375) with three RBIs in that spot going into the game — but he went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts. “He gets on base a lot, he’s possibly one of the best baserunners on the team,” Maddon told reporters. “It’s one of those things — preconceived notions — that you get hung up on. But I like what he’s doing. When the bottom of the order has been productive, there’s a potential for a lot of baserunners in the one-hole.” Only there wasn’t any such potential Friday as the Cubs’ No. 7-8-9 batters were a combined 0-for-9. It also didn’t help that Rizzo went 0-for-4 and stranded three runners. And, now, suddenly the Cubs-Reds rivalry isn’t what it used to be.
  5. TORONTO — The Detroit Tigers will be trying to avoid making more history Sunday afternoon when they face the Toronto Blue Jays on Canada Day at the Rogers Centre. After Blue Jays first baseman Justin Smoak smacked a 1-0 fastball from Joe Jimenez for his second career walkoff homer in the bottom of the ninth inning on Saturday 49ers Dante Pettis Jersey , the Tigers have lost 11 games in a row. The last time the Tigers put together a losing streak like that was 2003. On Sunday, in the third contest of the four-game series, the Tigers will be trying to avoid dipping deeper into their history by losing 12 in a row for the first time since 1996. The Tigers will start right-hander Jordan Zimmermann (2-0, 4.35 ERA) against Blue Jays left-hander J.A. Happ (10-3, 3.62). Saturday looked promising for the Tigers when they took a 3-0 lead in the third inning, but the Blue Jays came back to tie in the fifth. Both Toronto wins in the series have been by one run. “Honestly, nobody wants to play extra innings,” Smoak said. “To be able to do it in the ninth and get it over with is always a good feeling.” The Tigers would beg to differ. They would have been happy to try their luck in extra innings if that’s what it takes to end their funk. “We’re all trying hard Tramon Williams Jersey ,” Tigers manager Ron Gardenhire said. “Everybody’s trying. We tried all kinds of things today to try to make this happen. And we were in the game again and ultimately we lose the ballgame.” The Blue Jays have dominated the Tigers at the Rogers Centre in recent years, winning 12 of their past 14 meetings. There could be times when it seems as if the Tigers might be trying a little too hard to make things happen and then paying for it. First baseman John Hicks, who hit his seventh home run of the season in the second inning Saturday, was not so sure that is the case. “I don’t think guys are trying to do anything more than we’ve been trying to do all year,” he said. “We’re in a losing streak, but we’re going out every day playing the same way we’ve been playing all year. But when you are losing, things get magnified.” Losing a close game or a lopsided one does not matter, Hicks said Patriots Adrian Clayborn Jersey , adding “A loss is a loss. “They all stink, every loss is frustrating. It just happens to be in a losing streak, so it happens to magnify things more. We’ve had opportunities to win pretty much every ballgame we’ve lost.” The task Sunday falls to Zimmermann, who will make his 10th start of the season. Despite pitching five scoreless innings Monday against the Oakland Athletics, Zimmermann did not factor in the decision, He allowed four hits and three walks and struck out three. In three career starts against the Blue Jays, Zimmermann is 1-1 with a 3.93 ERA. This will be his first start against Toronto since June 8, 2016 Eagles Paul Worrilow Jersey , when he took the loss, giving up seven runs and eight hits with two walks and three strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings. He will be making his first career start at the Rogers Centre. Happ has not lost since May 10. In his eight starts since, he is 6-0 with a 2.60 ERA. One of the no-decisions came June 2 in Detroit when he allowed four runs and had eight strikeouts against the Tigers in five innings. In nine career games (eight starts) against the Tigers, he is 3-1 with a 4.10 ERA. The Blue Jays lead the season series between the teams 3-2. Two games are left. Both teams had injuries to relief pitchers Saturday. The Blue Jays put Ryan Tepera on the 10-day disabled list with inflammation in his right elbow and recalled Jake Petricka from Triple-A Buffalo. Tigers reliever Alex Wilson left the game — and was replaced by Jimenez — in the eighth inning with a strained left calf. He is listed as day to day. Buffalo Bills director of training operations Bud Carpenter is retiring after 33 seasons with the team. Carpenter was among the team’s longest serving active employees. He spent 21 seasons as the Bills’ head athletic trainer before being promoted to the director’s role in 2016. Under Carpenter, the Bills were named as the NFL’s 2014 athletic training staff of the year by the Pro Football Athletic Trainers Society and the Ed Block Courage Award Foundation. Carpenter and his staff were also credited for acting swiftly in their treatment of tight end Kevin Everett after the player sustained a serious spinal cord injury while covering a kickoff during Buffalo’s 2007 season opener against Denver. From nearby Allegany, New York, Carpenter was hired by the Bills in 1985 after spending a year on the NHL Boston Bruins athletic training staff. —
  6. The Chicago Bears say they have interviewed defensive coordinator Vic Fangio for their head coaching job. The interview on Wednesday was the first for the Bears since they fired John Fox two days earlier. In his three seasons as Chicago’s defensive coordinator Youth Antonio Callaway Jersey , Fangio has helped transform a unit that ranked among the worst in franchise history prior to his arrival. The Bears’ defense ranked 10th overall this season despite injuries to several key players, including linebacker Leonard Floyd. Fangio was defensive coordinator for Carolina (1995-98), Indianapolis (1999-2001), Houston (2002-05) and San Francisco (2011-14). Fox was let go after posting a 14-34 record in three years and a .292 winning percentage that ranks as the second-lowest in franchise history. The Bears were 5-11 this past season. — Watch out, New England. Here comes Sacksonville. Get ready, Philly. The Vikings are sailing into town. Tom Brady and the big game-tested Patriots (14-3) square off against the sack-happy Jacksonville Jaguars (12-6) next Sunday in the AFC championship game in Foxborough, Massachusetts – with the winner headed to the Super Bowl. ”It’s been an awesome year,” Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles said, ”and we want to keep it going.” In the NFC, Nick Foles and the resilient Philadelphia Eagles (14-3) host Case Keenum and the surprising Minnesota Vikings (14-3) – in a matchup of teams that overcame losing their starting quarterbacks. ”They count us out all the time,” said Minnesota’s Stefon Diggs Youth Dorance Armstrong Jr. Jersey , whose 61-yard touchdown catch as time expired Sunday gave the Vikings a stunning 29-24 victory. ”Nobody thinking we can do it. This game was over. I don’t stop playing till the clock hit zero. That’s it.” The Vikings open as a 3 +-point favorite against the Eagles, while the Patriots open favored by 9 1/2 in their game. Being here is nothing new, of course, for New England, which has advanced to the Super Bowl in three of the past six seasons. For fresh-faced Jacksonville, however, this is all rare territory. The Jaguars are playing in the conference title game for just the third time in franchise history, and first since losing to Tennessee during the 1999 season. Jacksonville is also one of four franchises to never play in the Super Bowl. ”I’m sure there will still be tons of people that are going to disapprove or talk negative or hate or do whatever they want,” Bortles said. ”But we get to keep playing. We get an opportunity to go play in Foxborough for another week, so I’m just honored to be able to do this and especially with this group of guys.” And, it has all come full circle for Tom Coughlin Marquez Valdes-Scantling Color Rush Jersey , who was Jacksonville’s coach the previous time the franchise got this far in the postseason. He went on to win two Super Bowls with the New York Giants – both against Bill Belichick’s Patriots – but is now the Jaguars’ executive vice president of football operations. He helped assemble a squad with coach Doug Marrone that has been powered by a tenacious defense that ranked second in the NFL during the regular season in sacks. After a few ho-hum games, Bortles, running back Leonard Fournette and the Jaguars offense showed it isn’t too shabby, either, outslugging Ben Roethlisberger and the Pittsburgh Steelers in a stunning 45-42 victory Sunday. ”Obviously, with what they have on their side of the ball, it’s a good team and we know they’ve got a good offense,” Bortles said. ”We knew we had to keep scoring.” There’s also this neat nugget: Jacksonville’s first AFC championship game appearance came during the 1996 season – against New England, which went on to play in the Super Bowl under then-coach Bill Parcells and lost to the Brett Favre-led Green Bay Packers. The Patriots have made it to the AFC championship game for seven straight seasons, clinching this trip with a 35-14 drubbing of the Tennessee Titans on Saturday night. ”The reality of the NFL is what we did this week will have nothing to do with what happens next week,” Brady said. ”We’re going to have to go repeat it Vinny Curry Color Rush Jersey , so you’ve got to get right back to work, right back to the process of trying to figure out how to break down our opponent. ”Everyone’s got to feel good physically and mentally and go out there and try to cut it loose one more time in a huge game.” The Patriots know how to do that, and they’re masters of tuning out distractions. Despite a published report during the week that raised questions about the relationships between Brady, Belichick and team owner Robert Kraft, New England was all business on the field against the Titans. ”It’s pretty incredible to be a part of that,” Brady said. ”I think the thing is that we don’t really take it for granted around here. I know how hard it is to get to this game. We’re very blessed to do it.” Meanwhile, Philadelphia is playing for the NFC title for the 11th time, but hasn’t won it since the 2004 season – when the Eagles went on to lose to the Patriots in the Super Bowl. ”We’ll be ready for next week,” defensive tackle Fletcher Cox said. The Eagles used steady play by Foles and a late goal-line stand by their defense to beat the Atlanta Falcons 15-10 on Saturday. It set up Philadelphia’s first conference championship appearance since the 2008 season. And it comes despite the Eagles losing starting quarterback Carson Wentz, a leading MVP contender, to a season-ending knee injury last month. ”Our team never wavered Jonathan Allen Color Rush Jersey , defense did an amazing job, special teams,” Foles said. ”That’s just been the story this year is that we just all stuck together.” The same can be said of the Vikings, who entered the season with Sam Bradford as their quarterback and had big playoff hopes. But he went down with a knee injury after the first week – and it appeared Minnesota’s dreams might be dashed. Enter Keenum, an unheralded and undrafted backup who ended up having the best season of his career. To top it off, Keenum combined with Diggs on one of the most stunning plays in NFL playoff history, a winning TD that sent the Vikings to their 10th NFC title game and first since the 2009 season. ”I don’t even know right now,̶
  7. Aaron Nola was the man Gabe Kapler wanted on the mound with Manny Machado at the plate and the tying run on third base. It was the right move. Nola stuck out nine in seven splendid innings Authentic Courtland Sutton Jersey , Nick Williams hit a two-run homer and the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Baltimore Orioles 4-1 Wednesday to sweep a two-game interleague series. Nola (11-2) gave up one run and seven hits to win his fifth straight decision. He escaped a jam on his 103rd pitch when second baseman Cesar Hernandez made an outstanding, over-the-shoulder running catch on Machado’s shallow fly to right with two outs and runners on first and third. ”That’s awesome,” Nola said of the play. Kapler, who was heavily criticized for pulling Nola after 68 pitches in the season opener at Atlanta, visited the mound before letting his ace face Machado with a 2-1 lead. ”We knew he was the best option,” the first-year manager said. ”He always makes us feel confident.” Nola said he would’ve lobbied to stay in but didn’t have to say anything other than he felt fine. ”I want to go deep in the game,” he said. ”I want to get through that inning.” After five consecutive losing seasons, the Phillies are on the rise under Kapler. They pulled within 1 1/2 games of NL East-leading Atlanta and moved 10 games over .500 for the first time since finishing the 2011 season with a franchise-record 102 wins. ”It’s a nice milestone, one we can celebrate,” Kapler said. Making his second career start and third appearance, Orioles right-hander Yefry Ramirez (0-2) retired 13 of his first 14 batters before running into trouble in the fifth. Ramirez gave up two runs – one earned – and one hit in five innings. ”I was really proud of Yefry. You couldn’t ask for much better,” Orioles manager Buck Showalter said. Williams connected off David Hess in the seventh Authentic Isaac Yiadom Jersey , sending a 409-foot shot into Philadelphia’s bullpen in right-center and extending the lead to 4-1. Victor Arano tossed two scoreless innings for his first career save. Ramirez didn’t allow a hit until Scott Kingery ripped a one-out double to left in the fifth. Williams, who walked, advanced to third on the hit. Jorge Alfaro followed with a grounder down the first-base line. Chris Davis moved a few steps to his left, took his eyes off the ball to look at Williams running halfway down the line, and the ball knuckled under his glove. Both runners scored on the error. Adam Jones lined an RBI double to left-center in the third, giving the Orioles a 1-0 lead. WELCOMING MANNY For the second straight day, fans clapped each time Machado was introduced. They also chanted ”We want Manny!” The three-time All-Star is set to become a free agent after the season and the Phillies are among the teams interested in acquiring him before the non-waiver trade deadline on July 31 or signing him in the offseason. Machado told reporters before the game he wants to play shortstop wherever he goes and he wouldn’t be surprised if Philadelphia aggressively pursued him. Phillies team president Andy MacPhail held the same position in Baltimore when the Orioles selected Machado No. 3 overall in the 2010 amateur draft. TRAINER’S ROOM Orioles: OF Joey Rickard was recalled from Triple-A Norfolk to replace OF Colby Rasmus, who was placed on the restricted list before Tuesday night’s game. Phillies: RHP Jerad Eickhoff was scheduled to throw another live batting practice at Single-A Clearwater. Eickhoff has nerve issue in fingers and hasn’t pitched this season. UP NEXT Orioles: RHP Andrew Cashner (2-8, 4.48 ERA) starts the opener of a four-game series at Minnesota on Thursday night. Cashner had a 3.21 ERA in five starts in June but didn’t earn a win. Phillies: Nick Pivetta (5-7, 4.66 ERA) takes the mound at Pittsburgh for the start of a three-game series on Friday. Pivetta earned the win in a scoreless inning of relief in Philadelphia’s 13-inning victory over Washington last Sunday. — CLEVELAND — Cody Allen is one of the least acclaimed yet most productive closers in the major leagues. On Friday night. when the Cleveland Indians open a three-game series with the Oakland A’s, Allen will be in uniform at Progressive Field for the first time as the Indians’ career saves leader. In pitching the ninth inning of a 3-2 Cleveland win in Kansas City on Wednesday, Allen posted his 140th career save Youth Minkah Fitzpatrick Jersey , breaking Bob Wickman’s franchise record of 139, which had stood since 2006. “He means so much to all of us,” Cleveland manager Terry Francona said of Allen. “This is a kid who was drafted in the 16th round, but through being a consummate professional, he’s now the Indians’ all-time leader. That’s pretty awesome. It’s a big accomplishment, and he’s not close to being done.” Allen (2-3, 3.38 ERA) ranks seventh in the American League this year with 18 saves, but his year-in, year-out consistency has been his trademark. He has had at least 30 saves in each of the last three seasons. Only two other closers in the majors can say that: the Los Angeles Dodgers’ Kenley Jansen and Boston’s Craig Kimbrel. “This is something I’m extremely proud of,” Allen said of passing Wickman as the club’s saves leader. “It’s something I get to hang my hat on for my career. It’s very cool.” The A’s (48-39) come to Cleveland with nearly the same record as the Indians (48-37), but what a difference a division makes. The first-place Indians lead the AL Central by 11 1/2 games. The A’s are in third in the AL West, 8 1/2 games behind the first-place Houston Astros. The A’s won two of three games from the Indians last weekend in Oakland. That was part of a longer streak in which the A’s have won eight of their last nine. Since June 16 Youth Leighton Vander Esch Jersey , Oakland is 14-3. “I think we’re having a lot of fun,” A’s third baseman Matt Chapman told MLB.com, “and no matter what the score is, I don’t think we count ourselves out. There’s no panic in the dugout. We just keep playing our game. We trust that we’re a good team.” On Friday night, the A’s will send Paul Blackburn (2-2, 6.46 ERA) to the mound. In his last start on June 29 in Oakland, Blackburn baffled the Indians, pitching 6 1/3 scoreless innings and giving up just three hits in a 3-1 victory. Blackburn has started five major league games this year. In the one against Cleveland, he is 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA and an opponents’ batting average of .150. In the other four starts, he’s 1-2 with an 8.83 ERA and an opponents’ batting average of .324. In two career starts against the Indians, Blackburn is 1-0 with a 2.19 ERA. Cleveland will counter with Carlos Carrasco (8-5, 4.24) Youth Preston Brown Jersey , who will make his first start since June 16, a 9-3 loss to Minnesota in which he was knocked out of the game in the second inning after getting hit in the right arm by a line drive off the bat of Joe Mauer. Carrasco was placed on the 10-day disabled list the next day with a right elbow contusion. He made one rehab start at Double-A Akron on June 30, pitching four scoreless innings and giving up one hit with four strikeouts and one walk. Carrasco’s last legitimate start was his best start of the year, a 4-0 win over the Chicago White Sox on June 11. In that game, he pitched seven scoreless innings and gave up two hits and one walk with 11 strikeouts. In six career appearances, including five starts, against Oakland, Carrasco is 3-1 with a 2.61 ERA.
  8. Shin-Soo Choo said he cares much more about getting on base multiple times each game than circling the bases. Then Authentic Ito Smith Jersey , he proceeded to do both. Choo reached base for the 41st straight game with a first-inning walk, tying the major league high this season, and also hit one of Texas’ five Texas home runs in the first three innings of the Rangers’ 11-3 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Friday night. Rougned Odor, Robinson Chirinos and Nomar Mazara homered in a seven-run second inning. Joey Gallo and Choo went deep in the third as the Rangers won for the 10th time in 12 games. Choo matched the streak that the Philadelphia Phillies’ Odubel Herrera put together March 30-May 19. ”Honestly, I don’t feel anything special,” Choo said afterward. ”I’m just happy for winning the first game of a three-game series.” Yovani Gallardo (2-0), making his third start since joining Texas on June 17, retired his first 10 batters and allowed all three runs on four hits and one walk in 7 1/3 seven innings. Gallardo struck out seven. The 32-year-old who grew up in nearby Fort Worth is in his second stint with the Rangers after being released by Milwaukee in March and designated for assignment by Cincinnati in April. Gallardo spent two months with Texas’ Triple-A Round Rock affiliate before being called up and credits the pitch clock in the minors for helping him. ”Grab the ball and go Authentic James Daniels Jersey ,” said Gallardo, who won 13 games for Texas in 2015. ”Not allowing myself and the hitter to think about things.” Dylan Covey (3-3) allowed four homers and nine runs in 2 1/3 innings. ”They’re a hot team right now,” Covey said. ”Just not a good one for me.” Choo greeted White Sox reliever Chris Volstad with his 15th homer of the season to extend his hitting streak to 12 games. He’s hitting .333 during the on-base streak with 52 hits and 38 walks. The only Texas batter in the starting lineup without a hit was Adrian Beltre, whose 3,105 career hits rank 21st in major league history. The White Sox reached their season’s halfway point at 28-53, one win better than the franchise’s worst record through 81 games. ”Hopefully, the guys are continuing to improve, catch the ball a little bit more consistently and just continue to learn and get better Lance Kendricks Jersey ,” Chicago manager Rick Renteria said. PITCHING NO SWEAT FOR SOX’S DAVIDSON Chicago outfielder Matt Davidson made his first pitching appearance since high school in the eighth inning. He retired all three batters he faced, closing with a strikeout of Odor, and was mobbed upon reaching the dugout. ”I know it sounds cheesy, but it was a dream come true,” Davidson said. DRAW IN FIRST GAME OF STRIKEOUT DERBY Gallo and Chicago’s Yoan Moncada each fanned twice. That allowed Gallo to maintain his one-strikeout lead over Moncada atop the major leagues, 116-115. Rangers batters lead the American League in strikeouts with 783, followed by the White Sox with 774. SHORT HOPS White Sox 3B Yolmer Sanchez, who turned 26 on Friday Jamaal Williams Jersey , was held out of the lineup for precautionary reasons after sustaining a left quad contusion Thursday. Sanchez could return Saturday. … Choo’s on-base streak is the longest since Atlanta’s Freddie Freeman reached in 46 straight games in 2016. … Covey’s ERA in five career innings against Texas is 25.20. TRAINER’S ROOM White Sox: RHP Miguel Gonzalez (shoulder) was recalled from his rehab assignment because of discomfort during a side session following Sunday’s start. Gonzalez will be re-evaluated. Rangers: LHP Martin Perez (right elbow) will make his second rehab start on Saturday for Double-A Frisco. Perez struck out nine and allowed only two singles in five innings Monday for Single-A Hickory. UP NEXT White Sox LHP Carlos Rodon (1-2) will seek his second consecutive win on Saturday. Rodon worked eight innings to match a career high and allowed just two runs to Oakland on Sunday. Rodon will face Rangers RHP Bartolo Colon (4-5), whose 244 career wins are one short of Dennis Martinez’s record for the most by a native of Latin America. — A look at what’s happening around the majors today: HITTING BRAVES Among the many things the Atlanta Braves have done right on their way to leading the National League East this season, they’ve been getting hits. The Braves began their series against fellow division leader Milwaukee on Thursday night with three of the top four hits leaders in the NL, with outfielder Nick Markakis (108) leading the way and infielder Ozzie Albies (102) and Freddie Freeman (101) close behind in third and fourth, respectively. It’s the first time in franchise history the team has had three players reach 100 hits prior to the All-Star game, and the Braves will continue their series when Mike Foltynewicz and Freddy Peralta face off. GOING GRAY In a season full of highlights for the New York Yankees, right-hander Sonny Gray has been one of the team’s biggest disappointments in his first full season with club. Gray will try and rebound from his worst start of the season when the Yankees begin a weekend series in Toronto against the Blue Jays. After being acquired from Oakland last season, Gray is 5-6 with 5.44 ERA this season and is coming off an 11-0 loss to Boston last weekend in which he allowed six runs in only 2 1/3 innings. CHICAGO SEEING RED Two weeks ago Authentic Su'a Cravens Jersey , the Chicago Cubs suffered through an embarrassing four-game sweep in Cincinnati – beginning a stretch of six losses in seven games. Chicago has won six straight games since that rough patch, and has the opportunity to make amends with the Reds when the two teams begin a weekend series at Wrigley Field. Mike Montgomery (3-2) starts for Chicago, and Tyler Mahle (6-6) takes the mound for Cincinnati. ACE OF NEW YORK Despite the struggles of the New York Mets for much of the season, Jacob deGrom has been one of the NL’s most dominant starters. The right-hander leads the league with his 1.84 ERA and will be back at work when he takes the mound against the visiting Tampa Bay Rays. He has allowed three runs in each of his last two starts, the first time he’s allowed three or more runs in back-to-back games since April. SUMMER KING Seattle Mariners right-hander Felix Hernandez (8-6) put together his best full month of the season in June, posting a 3.71 ERA in six starts and lowering his overall ERA from 5.83 to 5.11 in the process. The 2010 Cy Young award winner will try and extend his improved performance into July when he starts in an interleague game against the visiting Colorado Rockies. —
  9. ST. PETERSBURG Authentic Trent Murphy Jersey , Fla. — The Tampa Bay Rays continue to win games they perhaps shouldn’t, and they’ll have an opportunity for more of that Saturday against Houston’s Justin Verlander. The Rays (40-41) hit the midway point of their 2018 season with a 3-2 win over Houston, giving them six wins in their last seven games. Their pitching has led the way — three times in the last four games, they have held their opponent to three hits or less, this after doing so only three times in the first 77 games of this season. “If we are going to win a lot of game and we are going to string a bunch together, we have to have good pitching,” Rays manager Kevin Cash said. “The timely hitting is great, but we have to stay in the ballgame. For us to have allowed three runs in 18 innings against arguably the best team in baseball, we should find a way to win one.” Houston will send Verlander, who has been dominant (9-3, 1.82 ERA) but has gotten surprisingly little run support from a potent Astros lineup. Houston is just 11-7 in games he starts, and the Astros have scored a total of two runs in five of those losses. So Saturday could look like Thursday’s 1-0 Astros win, or could look like Friday’s 3-2 loss, which saw two errors factor in Tampa Bay’s scoring. Verlander faced the Rays just 11 days ago in Houston, again pitching well, allowing one run on six hits in 6 2/3 innings, but ultimately taking a no-decision in a 2-1 loss. He has 136 strikeouts in 113 innings this season and a ridiculous 0.81 WHIP. Against the Rays for his career, Verlander is 8-3 with a 3.18 ERA, but since 2010, he’s just 4-3, despite a 1.72 ERA in his last five starts against the Rays. At Tropicana Field Authentic Isaiah Oliver Jersey , he’s 5-2 all-time with a 2.53 ERA, including a 1.20 ERA in his last two outings. The Rays counter with reliever-turned-starter Ryne Stanek, who has thrived in the “opener” role that Tampa Bay has essentially created in the past six weeks. He’s starting for the second time in three days against the Astros having thrown 1 2/3 innings of scoreless, hitless baseball Thursday night. For the month of June, he’s pitched in 11 games and 14 2/3 innings without allowing a run. He’s held opponents to just four hits, lowering his season ERA to 1.85, just barely above Verlander’s. The Astros know they have to be careful with the white ceiling of Tropicana Field — the Rays’ three-run fourth inning got a spark Friday when center fielder Jake Marisnick couldn’t hold onto a pop at the warning track, allowing a run to score. “When you play here, you try to not take your eye off the ball,” Marisnick said. “With the ceiling, I kind of glanced quickly at the ball, then looked back up and lost track. I wasn’t able to come up with it. That’s a play I need to make 10 out of 10 times.” Just stepping into the batter’s box to face good friend and former teammate Max Scherzer was a special occasion for Rick Porcello. A career American League pitcher with 35 plate appearances on his resume going up against a three-time Cy Young Award-winner had mismatch written all over it. Instead, Porcello hit a three-run double off Scherzer that set the stage for the Boston Red Sox beating the Washington Nationals 4-3 in the opener of their three-game interleague series Monday night. ”I got lucky,” Porcello said. ”He got to the top of his windup and I told myself, `Start swinging.’ Then I hit it.” Porcello’s first major league extra-base hit came in the second inning on an 0-2 pitch after the Nationals intentionally walked Jackie Bradley Jr. to pitch to him. His .156 batting average and limited hitting experience made it appear to be the right calculation, but Porcello drove Scherzer’s 96 mph fastball over the head of Juan Soto in left center for his first RBIs since 2009. ”You don’t hit for an entire year,” said Porcello, who came in with five hits and two RBIs in his career. ”You don’t even know what it’s going to look like once you step in there. I was thinking swing the bat and be competitive up there. You just never know what’s going to happen because you don’t do it very often.” Scherzer and Porcello were teammates for five seasons with the Detroit Tigers and are still close. Because of that, Scherzer wasn’t surprised by Porcello’s hitting stroke. ”I know he can hit,” Scherzer said. ”Give him a couple sliders to keep him off balance and then was trying to get a fastball up and away and it ran back middle-in. Anybody can hit middle-in. He can do that. I’ve seen him do it.” On the mound, Porcello (10-3) struck out five and limited the damage to solo home runs by Anthony Rendon and Daniel Murphy. Scherzer (10-5) struck out nine and kept the Red Sox off the board except for Porcello’s bases-clearing double and became the 11th pitcher to reach 1 Authentic Deadrin Senat Jersey ,000 strikeouts with two different teams. When Scherzer exited the game after 108 pitches, Mookie Betts provided the Red Sox with their insurance run with a solo shot off Brandon Kintzler in the seventh, his 21st home run of the season. Bryce Harper hit his 21st in the eighth, but Boston’s bullpen held on to hand the Nationals their 16th loss in 24 one-run games. ”Go out there and try to win ballgames and they all feel the same to me,” Harper said as Washington fell to 42-41, seven games back of NL East-leading Atlanta. ”I mean we lose the game, you’re a loser. Win the game, you’re a winner.” Craig Kimbrel got into some trouble but picked up four outs for his 25th save in 27 chances. FIRST-BASE HARPER? Harper is doing just fine in center field but on Monday fielded some grounders at first base. It’s just experimental for now but could help the Nationals out down the line. ”I don’t ever know if he’ll ever start a game there, but I believe that if we’re in a pinch and we’ve got to make some kind of decisions in-game, he probably could play there,” manager Davey Martinez said. PUERTO RICO PRIDE Martinez and Red Sox manager Alex Cora were never on the same team but knew each other well from their playing days. They exchanged lineup cards as two managers of Puerto Rican descent in the series opener, a special moment and occasion for them and their country. ”It’s good for Puerto Rico,” Martinez said. ”We feel blessed and we’re happy we got the opportunity to do what we do.” TRAINER’S ROOM Red Sox: RHP Steven Wright (left knee inflammation) received a PRP (platelet-rich plasma) injection, a day after throwing a short bullpen session. Cora said Wright could return before the All-Star break. . 2B Dustin Pedroia (left knee inflammation) will remain in New York all week. . Cora said RHP Tyler Thornburg (shoulder surgery) will most likely be activated from the disabled list during this series. Nationals: 1B Ryan Zimmerman (right oblique strain) took part in a simulated game as he prepares to try to play in a game for the first time since May. … Martinez said C Matt Wieters (left hamstring strain) will go on a minor-league rehab assignment Tuesday at Double-A Harrisburg after reporting significant progress in the simulated game and could be activated as soon as Wednesday. UP NEXT Boston LHP Brian Johnson (1-2, 4.28 ERA), who is 1-0 with a 3.18 ERA in three career interleague appearances, faces Washington for the first time. RHP Tanner Roark (3-9, 4.10 ERA) pitches for the Nationals in his first career start against the Red Sox. —
  10. The Toronto Blue Jays have put pitchers Aaron Sanchez and Jaime Garcia on the 10-day disabled list. The Blue Jays activated right-hander Marcus Stroman off the 10-day disabled list. He’d been out since May 8 with shoulder trouble. Stroman was set to start Saturday night against the Los Angeles Angels. He is 0-5 with a 7.71 ERA. Toronto also recalled left-handed reliever Tim Mayza from Triple-A Buffalo. Sanchez sustained a right finger contusion prior to starting an 8-5 loss to the Los Angeles Angels on Thursday Tyler Boyd Jersey , giving up two runs in one inning before leaving the game. He is 3-5 with a 4.52 ERA. Garcia is dealing with soreness in his left shoulder, manager John Gibbons said. Garcia is 0-6 in his last 10 starts and has not won since April 17. — Tom Brady passed for three touchdowns and 337 yards, and the New England Patriots cruised past the Tennessee Titans 35-14 on Saturday night to advance to their seventh consecutive AFC championship game. New England (14-3) will host the winner of Sunday’s divisional matchup between Jacksonville and Pittsburgh. It was Brady’s 10th career postseason game with at least three TD tosses, moving him past Joe Montana for the most in NFL history. James White caught a touchdown pass and ran for another, and Danny Amendola had 11 catches for 112 yards. The Titans (10-8) took an early 7-0 lead Andrew Billings Jersey , but New England scored 35 straight points to take control. Marcus Mariota completed 22 of 37 passes for 254 yards and two touchdowns, but was under duress for most of the second half. He was sacked eight times, a Patriots playoff record. New England also held Derrick Henry to just 28 yards rushing on 12 carries. New England’s victory came on the heels of a week filled with drama following reports of turmoil involving Brady, coach Bill Belichick and team owner Robert Kraft. None of that showed on the field Saturday. EAGLES 15, FALCONS 10 PHILADELPHIA (AP) – With Nick Foles engineering several long drives Mason Crosby Jersey , Jake Elliott converting three field goals, and the defense getting stingy in the tightest spot, Philadelphia moved into the NFC championship game with a victory over the Atlanta Falcons. Foles directed brilliant marches of 74 and 80 yards in the second half – one into the whipping wind, the other with it – and Elliott atoned for missing an extra point by converting from 53 yards at the end of the second quarter, 37 and 21 in the second half. Then C.J. Uzomah Jersey , the Eagles (14-3) held when Atlanta (11-7) got to the 9-yard line with a first down, and to the 2 on fourth down. When Matt Ryan’s final pass sailed over Julio Jones’ head in the end zone, Philly could celebrate its first playoff victory since the 2008 season. Next Sunday, the Eagles will host either Minnesota or New Orleans for the conference crown. The Eagles last made the Super Bowl in the 2004 season, losing to New England. —
  11. Two Spanish skiers died Saturday after being swept away by an avalanche in the French Pyrenees Authentic Cordy Glenn Jersey , authorities said. The prefecture in the southwestern Hautes-Pyrenees region said the two men were part of a group of four Spanish tourists and a guide who were doing backcountry skiing Saturday in an off-piste area in Aragnouet, near the Spanish border. Myriel Porteous, an official with the prefecture, told The Associated Press an investigation has been opened to examine what set off the avalanche. She said two women and the Spanish guide managed to get out of the avalanche on their own. The two victims remained buried in the snow for two to three hours before being found by rescuers with the help of dogs that specialize in avalanche searches, Porteous said. One skier died at the site, the other after being transported to a hospital. Authorities have warned about a high risk of avalanches in the French Pyrenees and the French Alps. On Friday, four skiers were killed in an avalanche in the French Alps. Ozzie Albies watched the ball sail into the right-field seats and savored the moment. ”It feels great,” he said. ”I just see the ball going and I just enjoyed it.” Albies hit a grand slam and Freddie Freeman homered during a six-run sixth inning, and the Atlanta Braves beat the reeling New York Mets 8-2 on Tuesday night. Braves starter Mike Foltynewicz pitched five scoreless innings, allowing two hits and striking out six, but left the game after batting in the fifth with triceps tightness. He told reporters that ”it’s nothing to worry about” and that he’ll make his next scheduled start. Ender Inciarte added a pair of RBI singles to help Atlanta shake a rough West Coast trip, when it lost four of six. The Braves moved ahead of Washington for first in the NL East by beating a Mets team that has lost nine of 10 and 16 of 20 The Braves led 1-0 in the fourth on Inciarte’s RBI single. New York went up 2-1 in the sixth on Jay Bruce’s two-run ground-rule double Authentic Preston Brown Jersey , but that was it for the Mets, who have scored 10 runs in their last 78 innings. Freeman’s 13th homer in the bottom half of the inning tied it, and Inciarte’s single put the Braves ahead for good. A walk to pinch-hitter Preston Tucker loaded the bases and chased starter Zack Wheeler (2-5), and Albies cleared the bases with his 16th homer, coming off Paul Sewald, for a 7-2 lead. Albies is the first player 21 or younger to hit multiple grand slams in a season since Adrian Beltre hit two for the Dodgers in 2000. He’s the second Braves second baseman with two grand slams in a season, joining Davey Johnson in 1973. Albies, the NL leader in extra-base hits and runs, had been scuffling with a .125 average since June 1. ”The last two games he’s had some really good at-bats,” Atlanta manager Brian Snitker said. ”You know what he’s capable of. He’s a dynamic young man.” Shane Carle (4-1) faced just one batter to get the win. Devin Mesoraco grounded sharply to third baseman Johan Camargo, who lunged to his right to tag Asdrubal Cabrera and made a low throw from his knees that Freeman dug out at first for a double play. Wheeler allowed eight hits, six runs Authentic Chad Thomas Jersey , four walks and struck out two in 5 2/3 innings. Foltynewicz, who pitched his first career complete game in his last home start, hit the first batter Tuesday before retiring 13 straight. Mesoraco and Dominic Smith each singled with one out in the top of the fifth, but Foltynewicz escaped trouble with a pair of popups. Braves pitching coach Chuck Hernandez noticed Foltynewicz was uncomfortable, shaking his right arm after making a pitch. After Foltynewicz acknowledged the triceps were tight, Snitker decided to take him out. TAKE A SEAT Mickey Callaway was ejected for the first time as Mets manager after arguing with home plate umpire Stu Scheurwater in the top of the sixth. Brandon Nimmo was hit by Jesse Biddle’s pitch on his elbow, but Scheurwater ruled he did not attempt to get out of the way and declined to award Nimmo first base. Callaway was thrown out while standing near the right-hand side of the batter’s box. ”Obviously they thought Nim put his elbow out in front of the plate to get hit on purpose, but the ball was in the batter’s box, kind of at our player,” Callaway said. ADDING ON Nick Markakis went 3 for 4 and added an RBI double in the seventh to make it 8-2. … Freeman improved to 8 for 16 with 10 walks against Wheeler. … New York’s bullpen has a 6.68 ERA in its last 17 games. … Smith, in his first major league game this season, went 1 for 3 with two strikeouts. UP NEXT Mets: RHP Jacob deGrom (4-1, 1.57 ERA) leads the majors since April 21 with a 0.81 ERA – a span of nine starts and 55 1/3 innings – but New York has lost his past four outings. Can the Gators pull off the cover? No team has done more to limit Saints running back Alvin Kamara's influence on a game this season than New Orleans itself. That was by design, and Kamara says he's OK with it if an increasingly dynamic offense helps the Saints keep winning."I'm not worried about touches, whether it's a lot or a little," Kamara said after practice Wednesday. "Just take advantage of the plays that come."The Saints relied heavily on Kamara and receiver Michael Thomas in the first month of the season, when Kamara had more than 600 yards and six touchdowns from scrimmage and Thomas made 42 catches for 445 yards. In the most recent game before their Week 6 bye http://www.saintsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-mark-ingram-jersey , the Saints demonstrated in a lopsided victory over Washington that they no longer need to do that.Suddenly, quarterback Drew Brees had more options when deciding where to go with the ball. That development could make it considerably harder to defend an offense that twice put up more than 400 yards and at least 40 points before running back Mark Ingram or rookie receiver Tre'Quan Smith had touched the ball once this season, and before fellow receiver Cameron Meredith, seen as a key acquisition in free agency, had made as many as two catches."Everybody on the offense can make a play at any moment," said Kamara, whose six carries for 24 yards and three catches for 15 yards against Washington represented by far his lowest production this season. "We're a good offense and we're doing what we're supposed to do."Ravens coach John Harbaugh, whose team hosts New Orleans on Sunday, said the Saints have "two of the premier backs in the whole game" and an offense that is "back to full strength.""It kind of completes the picture that the Saints have for their offense," Harbaugh said.Meredith, who missed last season with a knee injury after leading Chicago in receiving in 2016, did not make his first catch with the Saints until Week 3 Max Unger Jersey , when his 11-yard touchdown was his only reception of that game. During the two games that followed, he caught eight passes for 103 yards."The more time we get together as a unit, it's only going to progress," Meredith said. "We've got young guys who are learning on the fly. All of that stuff is going to play a part."Smith made his first catch in Week 4, then caught three passes in Week 5 for 111 yards, including touchdowns of 62 and 35 yards.Ingram rushed 16 times for 53 yards and two TDs, and also caught two passes for 20 yards, in his 2018 debut after serving a four-game suspension for use of a banned substance.Meanwhile, New Orleans has found opportunities to further stress defenses by inserting Taysom Hill into games as a change-of-pace, read-option QB.Saints coach Sean Payton said he expected his offense to eventually become more diversified as the season wore on and will "continue to look at that and keep finding ways to mix and match who's in the game and how we can get them the ball."That has long been Payton's strong suit, Brees said."Everybody has their package of plays, the things that they're going to know stone cold so that when they go out there they can play with a ton of confidence and everybody knows that their opportunity can come at any moment Authentic Sheldon Rankins Jersey ," said Brees, who has completed 78 percent of his passes for 1,658 yards and 11 touchdowns without an interception."One game it's one guy carrying the load in the backfield for 100-plus yards and a couple touchdowns. The next game it might be the tight end position. The next game it might be a young guy like Tre'Quan coming up with two touchdown catches — three catches for over 100 yards. You just never know. And all those guys understand the importance of their role every week."Brees said the re-introduction of Ingram, combined with the emergence of Smith and Meredith, should only make it easier for the Saints' offense to adjust during games to the way they're being defended."We try to paint the picture for each guy that, 'Hey, we're not sure what we're going to get (defensively), but if we start getting this, man, this is your opportunity," Brees said. 13. Saints Practice Squad Signings: And Where Did Our Released Players Land Not surprising is the fact that several of the players the Saints released have already be signed by other teams. In fact Youth Michael Thomas Jersey , thus far the Saints and the Buffalo Bills have had the most players waived, claimed by other teams. The Dolphin have claimed short time Saint, WR. Tanner McEvoy, the Giants CB KamrinMoore, Houston Texans Natrell Jamerson, and the Indianapolis Colts Al-Quadin Muhammad. Will post updates as the come in.This speaks to how amazing our depth was this year.Practice squad signing are also being reported and will be updated as they occur. First report to be signed to the practice squad was TE Garrett Griffin. WR Keith Kirkwood, QB J.T. Barrett, OT Rick Leonard, former Green Bay Packers LB Vince Biegel, DT Woodrow Hamilton IV Youth Cameron Jordan Jersey , TE Deon Yelder, OT Nate Wozniak, and DE Alex Jenkins.Alex Jenkins is subject to the International exemption so we have room for two more. Stay tuned. It appears the final two aver been added to the practice squad. It’s reported that RB DwayneWashington and RB Jonathan Williams have agreed to terms with the Saints to join rest. We now have a total of 11 practice squad members.Dwayne Washington was waived by the Detroit Lions 9-1-18. Accountability has become a common theme in the Philadelphia Eagles' locker room. The team relied on strong brotherhood and camaraderie to overcome a lot of adversity and capture the franchise's first Super Bowl title last season. Now, players are questioning whether their teammates have enough drive and desire.Last week, center Jason Kelce said "there was a much greater level of accountability from a cohesive standpoint" in 2017.On Tuesday, safety Malcolm Jenkins said "the demeanor of the team really bothered me" in a 48-7 loss to the Saints.Coach Doug Pederson and quarterback Carson Wentz responded to Jenkins' comments in different ways Wednesday."I talk about ownership quite a bit, and I think some of his comments are directed toward him," Pederson said of Jenkins. "He'll own that. And I think it kind of sends a message a little bit to everybody. We're all held to a higher standard, and it starts with me. I lean on our leadership of this football team quite a bit and ask that if they see something, to respond. I don't think he is addressing it to one particular person. I think it's a whole Color Rush Vonn Bell Jersey , it's a group, and we all need to kind of step our game up."After Jenkins got beaten by Alvin Kamara for a 37-yard touchdown catch on fourth-and-7 in the fourth quarter and the Saints already leading by 31 points, Jenkins raised two middle fingers to his former head coach Sean Payton. Then he slammed his helmet to the turf on the sideline.Wentz was visibly frustrated after throwing an interception earlier in the game and punched the air as he walked toward the bench."We all have a ton of respect for his opinion and how he sees things, and we all see things a little differently," Wentz said of Jenkins. "What I said after the game is that we won't be a team that quits. We won't be a team that lays down. There's something that we can see on film from how we handled our body language and different things like that, myself included, that's uncharacteristic of who we are. It's really up to the leaders, Malcolm, myself, other leaders to hold everyone accountable and keep plugging along."The Eagles were a close-knit group last season on their way to a 13-3 record. Players stood up for each other Marshon Lattimore Jersey , supported one another and it was evident in how they overcame a slew of injuries to key starters. Wentz was having an MVP-caliber season when he tore two knee ligaments in Week 14. But Nick Foles stepped in and ended up becoming the Super Bowl MVP after leading Philadelphia past Tom Brady and the Patriots, 41-33.That seems far longer than only nine months ago. The Eagles (4-6) have lost two in a row and will try to snap a three-game home losing streak when they host the New York Giants (3-7) on Sunday."They're disappointed. We're all disappointed. The season has not gone the way we anticipated coming out of training camp," Pederson said. "So we continue to fight every single day in practice. ... This is one of the things I love about this football team, there isn't a ton of finger pointing. You might take Malcolm's comments as finger pointing or Kelce's; it's not. They're talking about themselves, too, right? They hold themselves accountable. I hold myself accountable, and then collectively we can do that as a group." www.nflshopoutlet.com/jacksonville-jaguars

It’s the ultimate Victory Monday for the New England Patriots: the team won the Super Bowl yesterday by beating the Los Angeles Rams 13-3 in a game dominated by defense pretty much from start to finish. And while the contest might not live up to the high-scoring beauty standards established by NFL offenses this season, it still saw plenty of memorable performances, especially on the Patriots’ side.In fact David Andrews Jersey , we can name all 53 players on the team’s active roster as winners today — and that’s not it. We also need to point out the 10 practice squad players. And the 17 men who ended the year on reserve lists but will still get Super Bowl rings however small or big their contributions to the 2018 Patriots were. And that is still not all the winners: there is also the ownership and the coaching staff, the personnel and scouting departments, the equipment crew and those working in all the other behind-the-scenes jobs. All in all, were are speaking of 114 additional people (according to the Patriots media guide) who can call themselves victors after yesterday’s game. Together with the 80 players, we get 194 men and women who in some way or another contributed to this latest of the Patriots’ championships. Every single one of them is a winner — hence the title of the article you are currently reading. But of course, you probably also expect the usual recognition of the game’s standout performers. Fret not, here is the list similar to the ones that get published after every game:Winner: CB Stephon GilmoreEven before his enormous forth quarter interception, Gilmore was playing lights out. Going mostly against ex-Patriot Brandin Cooks Elandon Roberts Jersey , the All-Pro cornerback was outstanding and playing a near-perfect game. It was the type of performance that makes you go “yep, he’s worth ever cent of the multi-million dollar free agency contract he signed last offseason.” In short: Gilmore was fabulous.Winner: WR Julian EdelmanEdelman won the MVP award for playing an excellent game even when the rest of the offense failed to hit its groove. As quarterback Tom Brady’s favorite target, the 32-year old finished the day with 10 catches for 141 yards and was at times single-handedly responsible for moving the offense down the field due to his ability to get open quickly and find soft spots in coverage.Winner: ST Matthew Slater & P Ryan AllenIn a game that was one consistent field position battle, the Patriots’ special teamers were able to keep the entire club in a solid spot. Two men in particular stood out: punter Ryan Allen and gunner Matthew Slater. The former displayed some pin-point accuracy in placing his kicks, while the latter was usually the first man down the field to either make a tackle or down the football in favorable position.Winners: LB Dont’a Hightower & LB Kyle Van NoyPrior to the season, New England’s linebacker corps was seen as an area to address. After the Super Bowl, those offseason questions look silly now: Hightower and Van Noy were outstanding against the Rams, combing for three of the Patriots’ four sacks as well as six quarterback hits. The duo looked good against the pass and when attacking downhill Shaq Mason Jersey , and also helped the team keep the L.A. running game in check all night.Winner: The offensive lineIt certainly was not perfect, but it was still a very good outing for the Patriots offensive line against one of the best — if not the best — defensive lines in football. Aaron Donald and Ndamukong Suh combined for only two quarterback hits all day long, and while they had their moments against the run New England’s blockers kept them in check and away from Tom Brady. It was yet another high-quality performance by Dante Scarnecchia’s unit.As noted above, there are far more winners: from Rob Gronkowski to Sony Michel to Danny Shelton to Devin McCourty to everybody else on the team or coaching staff. However, those seven are the ones that might have the best case for the MVP title that was ultimately won by Julian Edelman. But in the end, all that matters is that the Patriots have earned another trophy — as a team consisting of 194 individuals.
